One year of classic 2d6 sci-fi adventure

Adventures in the Distant Fringe is a Traveller (Cepheus Engine) campaign set in the unofficial Distant Fringe setting. We've had 44 sessions since our start in late March of last year. To commemorate the campaign's recent first anniversary on the auspicious day of 1 May (often called May Day, reminiscent of the Mayday emergency distress signal that so memorably graced the cover of the classic games boxed sets), here is a short list of achievements thus far. (The corresponding session or sessions are noted in parentheses where relevant.)

  • Character deaths: 0
  • Parsecs travelled: 33
  • Subsectors visited: 4
  • Class A starports visited: 3
  • Interstellar polities visited: 3
  • In-game time elapsed: 265 days
  • Misjumps: 1 (1)
  • Tentacle monsters encountered: 1 (1-3)
  • Ground vehicles stolen: 1 (4)
  • Terrifying extradimensional entities released upon an unsuspecting world: 1 (12)
  • Greatest number of skipped ship mortgage payments: 3
  • Highest bank account balance: KCr1289
  • Mercenaries, terrorists, and/or thieves killed: 13 (15, 30-31)
  • Homicidal robots destroyed: 1 (18)
  • Air whales tagged for science: 4 (29)
  • Enemy missiles evaded or destroyed: 5 (16, 38)
  • Laser tag games played: 1 (20)
  • Alternate timelines visited: 1 (24-26)
  • NPCs spaced: 1 (28; but it was okay, she survived)
  • Friends who turned out to be androids: 1 (32)
  • Potential patrons rejected: 1 (34)
  • Pirate ships run from: 2
  • Mutated superhumans confronted: 1 (40-41)
  • Nuclear explosions caused more or less deliberately: 1 (41)

Thanks to my players, who make this campaign endlessly surprising and delightful!

Addendum (8 May 2024): I was reminded that there was in fact a second tentacled monster (see sessions 34 & 35).  And currently, on the desert moon of Karth, there are the tentacled sandsquid (yet to be encountered). What can I say? It’s scientifiction
